Kenneth O. Perkins Sr.

1940 – 2018

LEWISTON – Kenneth O. Perkins, Sr., 78, of Mechanic Falls passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at Central Maine Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Auburn on Feb. 6, 1940, the son of Earl and Louise Harriman Perkins. He attended Edward Little High School and served in the National Guard from 1956 to 1966. Kenneth married Frances Hodgkin on Aug. 13, 1964. He had been employed as a rust proofer and reconditioner for Giant Advance, in Auburn. He later worked as a custodian at Clover Manor and then at Minot School.

He enjoyed smelting, fishing and cleaning. He was a practical joker. In his younger years he played softball on the Clover Manor team and raced car #49 at Oxford Plains Speedway. His family was most important to him.

He is survived by his wife, of Mechanic Falls; his children, Doreen Riggs of Livermore, Ken Jr. and wife, Anita of Norway, Kevin and wife, Mary of Lewiston, Kathy Downing and husband, Ric of Hartford, Diane Thomas and husband, Larry of Lisbon Falls, Darlene Thomas and husband, Sam Jr., of Minot and Felicia Gilks and husband, Sean, of Livermore Falls; 15 grandchildren, Tia, Ben, Elizabeth, Zak, Nate, Lance, Jason, Sammy, Seth, Meagan, MacKenzie, Morgan, Adri, Abi and Whitney; four great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Kennadie, Annie and Liam; two sisters, Evelyn Berube and Sandra Strout; and his brother, Leonard Perkins.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son-in-law, Jeff Riggs; and a granddaughter, Bambi Lynn.

The family wishes to thank the staff in SCU at Central Maine Medical Center, especially Luke and Sam.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, at 2 p.m., at the Pleasant Street Baptist Church in Mechanic Falls. Family and friends may attend visitation on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 26 W.
