LEWISTON — Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice announces that its volunteer program received level 3 certification from We Honor Veterans.

We Honor Veterans is a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, in collaboration with the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice was awarded 3 Star certification for its ongoing efforts to enhance the veteran hospice experience. A team of veteran volunteers has been assembled who visit with veteran patients, in their homes, nursing homes or at the Hospice House.

These volunteers also perform pinning ceremonies in which they pin a small American flag onto the lapel of hospice patients and thank them for their service, as witnessed by the patient’s family and friends. To date, the organization has performed 271 pinning ceremonies.
