TURNER — Rescue Chief Lisa Bennett said the Rescue Department and Fire Department each raised more than $2,100 from the annual turkey dinner fundraiser Nov. 10.

Bennett also said the Rescue Department recently purchased two Apple iPads, one for each rescue truck, for a more efficient data-entry system. She said there has been a noticeable change with the upgraded technology.

Town Manager Kurt Schaub said the town is still looking for two licensed truck drivers for the highway department. One position is for a full-time driver, Schaub said, and the other is for a driver looking to work on an on-call basis.

“This would be mainly for the benefit of the town,” Schaub said. “It’s been difficult to find people to staff plow crews all across the state, even for the Maine Department of Transportation, so we are not alone.”

Schaub also shared that the annual town tree lighting and visit with Santa Claus is Tuesday, starting at about 6:30 p.m.

He said there will be goodie bags for the younger residents and cookies, hot cocoa and cider for families.

Fire Chief Nathan Guptill said there will be a firetruck on site for the kids to check out and it will be “fully decorated.”

Schaub also announced that with the official dates of April 5 and 6, 2019, picked for the annual town meeting, nomination papers will be available Jan. 10 and absentee ballots March 5.
