FARMINGTON — A Brewer man accused of sexually abusing a girl younger than 15 in January 2017 in Jay had his bail reduced to $5,000 cash Wednesday in Franklin County Superior Court.

Adam B. Carrick, 36, had been held on $10,000 cash bail since Oct. 15 at the the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington.

He was arrested Sept. 30 in Hancock County on a Jay Police Department warrant issued in August charging unlawful sexual contact. 

According to an affidavit, the girl was abused several times on or about Jan. 1, 2017. 

Jay Police Chief Richard Caton IV received a Maine Department of Health and Human Services referral from Franklin County District Attorney’s Office on July 13.

The child was interviewed July 19 at the Chidren’s Advocacy Center in Farmington by Franklin County Detective Kenneth Charles, while Caton and a DHHS representative observed, according to the police affidavit.  

On Wednesday, Judge Robert Mullen lowered Carrick’s bail to $5,000 cash after a conference with lawyers in the judge’s chambers.

Release conditions include Carrick not be in Franklin County unless for court hearings. He is also prohibited from having contact with the victim and children younger than 16. 

Mullen said he understood more investigation needs to be done. The case is set for a dispositional conference Feb. 5, 2019.

It is currently on the March trial list but could be moved to June, if more time is needed. 

A conviction for unlawful sexual contact is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
