Rep. Ralph Tucker, D-Brunswick, will be introducing a bill that would eliminate non-medical exemptions for vaccinations. Maine currently allows people to opt out of vaccines for philosophical, religious or medical reasons. Rep. Tucker wants to eliminate the first two.

If passed, his bill would strip Maine residents of their right to make an informed health decision for themselves and their families. As free individuals in a free society, people must protect their inalienable right to decide what is injected into their bodies and the bodies of their trusting children.

I urge everyone to learn about Maine state laws that protect civil liberties and to take action to protect them in a time when personal rights are being openly threatened.

Ultimately, the choice should be left with the individual.
