HARPSWELL — A bomb squad is en route to Harpswell from Augusta, after a projectile was delivered ashore at Bailey Island in Harpswell. The projectile was brought in off a lobster boat Saturday.
It is about 6 inches in diameter and 3 to 4 feet long.
It is believed the object was taken from roughly 12 miles off the coast. It was initially tangled in fishing lines and covered in mud, but once the fishermen saw it was labeled “live round” they ceased operations and called police, who notified the Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, who in turn called the bomb squad.
