RUMFORD — The Maine K9 Vests Fund, a nonprofit organization run by Wayne Robichaud and his family of Oxford, recently donated bulletproof vests and first aid kits to working police dogs in the Rumford Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Rumford’s K9, Niko, and Franklin County Sheriff’s K9, Judge, were the recipients of the new equipment on Tuesday, Dec. 4. The organization will be donating two more vests in the near future, one to Farmington Police Department’s K9, Axel, and the other to Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department’s K9, Vixen.

Maine K9 Vests Fund raises money through fundraising and donations received from local businesses. These vests cost approximately $1,000 per dog, which includes personalization, leash and collar, first aid kit and a portable water bottle/bowl.

The organization’s mission is to equip every police dog in Maine with these protective vests. For more information or to donate to the fund, contact Wayne Robichaud at 207-890-0951.
