100 years ago: 1918

The annual meeting of the Lewiston and Auburn Festival Chorus was held Thursday evening at the Philharmonic studio, with President Jackson presiding. Reports from the officers were heard and the new board of officers elected. The first meeting of the year was appointed for Thursday evening Jan. 2. The number of rehearsals to be held before the festival is limited to twenty, so it is urgent that all members attend each one.

50 years ago: 1968

For the first time, the Junior Miss Pageants of the two cities will be a joint event. The title holders will be chosen at the Pageant Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Lewiston High School Auditorium. Eight girls will compete for the role — six from Auburn and two from Lewiston. The Auburn contestants are Margot Anderson, Melanie Bernier, Suzanne Bourassa, Belinda Desjardins, Sallie Anne Dunn, and Linda Greaton. Representing Lewiston will be Lucille Boisvert and Linda Guerrette.

25 years ago: 1993

Local and area retail merchants, sales clerks, food servers and cashiers are sporting a new piece of holiday wear — a big button that reads ‘Think Local Before You Buy.” The button is the latest addition to the awareness campaign created by the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, with support from an enthused business community, to bring public attention to the power of circulating money in the local economy. Initiated this spring, the Think Local campaign program has been seen in the news media and heard over local radio.
