BUCKFIELD — Hannah Shields scored 17 points as Buckfield defeated Rangeley 39-37 in an East-West Conference girls’ basketball contest Friday.

Katie Henderson added 10 points for the Bucks. Shields and Henderson each had four points in the fourth quarter, and Deja Bennett converted a three-point play to help the Bucks hold on.

The Lakers (3-1) were led by Brooke Egan with 12 points and Winnie LaRochelle with 10.

Deering 42, Lewiston 35

PORTLAND — Delainey Haines scored 18 points and Ashleigh Mathisen had six steals as the Rams (1-1) used a 26-11 run in the second and third quarters to erase a 10-2 deficit and pull away from the Blue Devils (0-3) on Friday.

Madeline Foster paced Lewiston with 17 points.

Fryeburg 41, Leavitt 30

TURNER — Sierra Lyman scored 11 points and Kaylee Emery added eight as the Raiders (2-1) erased an 8-3 first-quarter deficit and pulled away from the Hornets (0-3) at Turner.

Kayleigh Gilbert paced Leavitt with 11 points.

Hebron 46, Temple 34

WATERVILLE — Allyson Walsh dominated in the paint, racking up 21 points in Hebron Academy’s 46-34 victory over Temple in girls’ basketball action Friday.

Franceska Halloran chipped in 13 points, including three 3-pointers for the Lumberjacks (3-0).

Deleyni Carr led Temple (2-1) with 15 points.

Maranacook 52, Poland 40

READFIELD — Amanda Goucher scored nine points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Black Bears to a KVAC B win over the Knights on Friday.

Gabrielle Green scored 11 points, while Kate Mohlar added nine points for Maranacook (2-1), which made 12 of its final 17 field goals to close out the win.

Sophie Vallee led Poland (1-2) with 16 points.

Boys’ basketball

Boothbay 66, Monmouth 63

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — The Boothbay boys’ basketball team held on to beat Monmouth 66-63 and remain unbeaten this season.

The Mustangs (1-3) gave the Seahawks (3-0) a scare late in the game when Connor Davies was fouled on a 3-pointer with Monmouth trailing by three points. Davies made two of the three free throws, but then Sullivan Rice made two free throws to put Boothbay’s lead back at three points.

Steve Reny led Boothbay and all scorers with 27 points, and teammate Hunter Crocker added 17.

Davies topped the Mustangs with 23 points and Gabe Martin added 17.

Deering 80, Lewiston 57

LEWISTON — Ben Onek drummed up 26 points to power Deering to an 80-57 victory over Lewiston in boys’ basketball action Friday evening.

The Rams (3-0) went on a 10-0 run to start the second half. Max Morrione contributed 13 points for Deering.

Yasin Mohamud led the Blue Devils (0-3) with 12 points in the losing effort.

Leavitt 57, Fryeburg 42

FRYEBURG — Wyatt Hathaway scored 25 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, and the Hornets (3-0) beat the Raiders (2-1) on Friday.

Cole Morin added 10 points for Leavitt, which led 29-14 at halftime.

Tucker Buzzell paced Fryeburg with 19 points. Oscar Saunders chipped in with 12.

Maranacook 72, Poland 53

POLAND — Sophomore Cash McClure netted a game-high 24 points to lead Maranacook to a 72-53 victory over Poland in boys’ basketball action Friday evening.

The Knights (1-2) played evenly in the first quarter with an 18-17 lead after one. Sophomore Isaiah Hill and senior Tyler Tucci each had a team-high 14 points in the contest.

The Black Bears (2-1) picked up steam in the second and third quarters, and came out roaring with a 27-15 fourth quarter performance. Mitch Root chipped in with 14 points for Maranacook in the winning effort.

Mt. Blue 60, Nokomis 30

FARMINGTON — James Anderson and Garrett Reynolds scored just over half of Mt. Blue’s points in a 60-30 KVAC victory over Nokomis.

Anderson led the Cougars (3-0) with 16 points, while Reynolds contributed 15.

Jayden Brooks led Nokomis (0-3) with seven points. Andrew Hopkins had six.

Oak Hill 87, Telstar 66

WALES — Gabe Samson scored 25 points and Caden Thompson added 23 as the Raiders rolled to an MVC victory Friday.

Ausborn Boston chipped in with nine points for the Raiders (1-3).

Davin Mason led the Rebels (0-4) with 24 points.

Rangeley 54, Buckfield 47

BUCKFIELD — Kenneth Thompson scored a team-leading 13 points as Rangeley bolted ahead in the second quarter and held tight for a 54-47 triumph over Buckfield in boys’ basketball action Friday evening.

The Lakers (2-0) turned up the tempo in the second quarter to come from behind and take a 26-18 lead at the half. Callahan Crosby contributed a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Nolan Boone also posted 11 points for Rangeley.

Senior forward Tyler Gammon carried the load for the Bucks (0-3) with a game-high 26 points on 12 field goals, including two from 2-point range, in the losing effort.

Winthrop 68, Dirigo 32

WINTHROP — Nate LeBlanc scored a game-high 15 points to lead four players in double digits as the Ramblers (4-0) downed the Cougars (1-2) on Friday.

Sam Figueroa added 12 points and Jevin Smith and Cam Wood each chipped in with 11 for Winthrop, which led 56-21 after three quarters.

Jeremy St. Germaine scored 14 points for Dirigo.
