PORTLAND – Marie A. Laverdiere, 63, formerly of Lewiston, died Friday, Dec.14, 2018, at the Fallbrook Woods Residential Care Facility in Portland, following a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Lewiston on March 2, 1955, she was the daughter of Rodolphe and Carmel Turcotte Laverdiere. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1973, and Bates College, Class of 1978. She was active in Ss. Peter & Paul Parish and taught CCD for several years, and then spent 31 years teaching English at Lewiston High School. She also worked seasonally at the local L.L. Bean Call Center.

Marie loved to travel, often with her best friend from eighth grade, Patty Bergin and her husband, John. The trio made several trips together, including multiple trips to Ireland. She loved cats, and enjoyed contra and line dancing. Marie was always good with her hands and enjoyed arts and crafts, belonging to needlepoint circle. Marie was known for wearing her signature pins every day; she had quite an eclectic collection.

Survivors include two brothers, Marc and wife, Margie of Lewiston, and Jacques and wife, Melissa of Auburn, three sisters, Lorraine and husband, John Powell of Litchfield, Lise and husband, Bob Farmer, of Powder Springs, Ga., and Rose and husband, Dave Gagne, of Lewiston, and several nieces and nephews.The family wants to extend a special thanks to Fallbrook Woods Residential Care Facility in Portland for their amazing care of Marie and making her family feel at home and very much loved. Visitation will be held at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home on Wednesday, 1-4 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Service at 4 p.m. Interment, St. Peter’s Cemetery.
