LEWISTON – George O. Hood, 82, a longtime resident of Leeds, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, with his loving family at his side, following several months of declining health.

He was born Dec. 22, 1936 at Stricklands Loop in Livermore Falls, the son of Augustus Hood Sr. and Cora (Goding) Hood.

He attended Livermore Falls High School. George proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. On Dec. 28, 1960, in Leeds, he married his wife of 52 years, Nellie Edwards, of New Gloucester. Nellie passed away April 14, 2013. George worked as an electrician for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #1253 until his retirement. George was a member of IBEW Local Union #1253 in Fairfield, Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post #3335 and Amvets Post #33 in Jay. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family, hunting, fishing, flying airplanes, cooking, beekeeping, making wine from the grapes that he grew, watching and feeding the birds, visiting with family and friends, riding the back roads, and was known for always having a story to tell.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, “his little angels”,  Sheri Hood and companion, Vern Keene of Jay; Kimberly Ellis and husband, Dean, of Canton; Coralee Hood and fiancé, Bill Lavoie, of Leeds; and Rebecca Albert and husband, Leo Albert Jr., of Oxford; his cat, “Baby”; nine cherished grandchildren, Amanda Fortier, Dakota Hood, Keith Ellis, Kyle Ellis, Curtis Brown III, Taylor Hood, Garret Leiter and Kaylee and Zackary Lavoie; six great-grandchildren, twins, Morgan, Hunter and Charlotte Fortier, Makenzie Ellis, Cayden Bronish and Hadley Tozier; brothers, Augustus Hood Jr. of Turner, Philip Hood of Leeds, and Richard Hood and wife Pat of Griffin, Ga.; brother-in-law, Burton Mitchell of Leeds, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Nellie and sister, Janet Mitchell.

Funeral services with full military honors will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 4, at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m., on Thursday, January 3, at the funeral home. Members of the military organizations will meet at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
