AUBURN – Maurice G. Girouard, 74, of Lewiston died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, in the loving arms of his wife, Jolene, at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Health Care & Hospice. He was born in Lewiston on July 16, 1944, a son of the late Lionel and Marguerite (Perreault) Girouard. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School class of 1962. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy. After leaving the Navy he found his true love, Jolene Bisson, and they were married in Lewiston on July 8, 1972.

Maurice worked for several years at Falcon Shoe. He then went on to graduate from Kaplan University with his associates degree at the age of 62.

He was a member of Holy Family Church and the American Legion Post 22. He enjoyed golfing and bowling where he bowled for several years in a league. Most of all Maurice loved music. He started playing the accordion at 8 years old. He help found the Hi-Hats band with several friends and played for several years. He wasn’t much of a talker but you could always hear him whistling.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jolene of Lewiston; a sister, Denise Spooner and her husband, Rick, of Sabattus; a brother, Ronald Girouard and his wife, Joline, of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Joyce Coyne and her husband, Coleman, of Auburn; a brother-in-law, Ronald Bisson and his wife, Tina of Florida, and his nieces and nephews: Jennifer, Jeffrey, Andrew Girouard, Ryan Spooner and Adam Lajoie; three aunts, Jean Hyde, Pauline Sylvia and Gabrielle Sirois and several cousins.

The family would like to send a very special thank you to the staffs at St. Mary’s Oncology Department and the Hospice House for the exceptional care they gave to Maurice during his illness.

Visitation will be at Fortin’s Lewiston on Wednesday, Jan. 2, from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Church. Committal will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.   Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin Group Funeral Home, Cremation & Monument Services 70 Horton St., Lewiston.
