TAVARES, Fla. and Brewer – Gerald Carstensen, 70, passed away on Dec. 30, 2018, at Maine Veterans’ Home Bangor, with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 14, 1948, in Bangor, the son of Roy and Vivian (Drew) Carstensen.
Gerald attended and graduated from Caribou High School in 1967 and was an avid baseball pitcher. After high school he joined in the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 where he became a combat veteran. He went on to have a career with the Brewer Water District and eventually became Superintendent, retiring after 20 years. Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
Gerald is survived by his son, Jake Carstensen; brothers, Dana, and Roy Jr.; sister, Cathy Hatch; and grandchildren, Cody, Mindy, Stephanie, and Isaac.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his daughter, Tracy Bogan.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit, 4-6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at Brookings-Smith Brewer Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Spring burial will be at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Condolences to the family may be expressed at Brookings-Smith.com
