LEWISTON – Robert C. Welch, 76, of Kerr Street, Rumford, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 at the Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston.

He was born in Rumford, on May 4, 1942, the son of Robert A. and Christine (Howard) Welch, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, class of 1961. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Robert worked for the Town of Rumford Highway Department for many years as foreman and then served as Rumford Town Manager for over 12 years, until he retired.

He was a member of the Rumford United Methodist Church, The Rumford American Legion and V.F.W. Posts. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren.

He was married in Rumford on Sept. 20, 1963 to the former Anne Marie Sinclair, who died Jan. 11, 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Raquel Welch and her companion and Robert’s caregiver, Kris LaPrell, of Peru; three grandchildren, Robert H. Schmersal and companion, Ciara Keen, of Peru, Owen Welch-Blackwell, of Gorham, and Olivia Welch-Blackwell, of Peru; brothers, Randy Welch and wife, Brenda, of Bangor and Roland Welch and wife, Karen, of Tennessee, a sister-in-law, Sandra Welch of Rumford; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Richard.

A celebration of his life will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at the American Legion Hall, Congress Street, Rumford. Interment in the spring will be at the West Ellis Cemetery, Rumford.
