CLERMONT, Fla. – Dorothy Elizabeth Hopkins, 88, passed away Dec. 19, 2018, at Crane’s View Lodge, Memory Care ALF, in Clermont, Fla. She was born in Rumford, May 16, 1930, to William J. and Elizabeth W. Kimball.

Dorothy graduated from Stephen’s Memorial High School, in Rumford, then moved to the Lewiston/Auburn area where she met and married the love of her life, George Louis Hopkins. After raising her children, she returned to the workforce as an office manager/bookkeeper at the Tennis Racquet in Lewiston, and then the Racquet and Fitness Club, in Portland, until retiring, to become a full-fledged Snowbird. She and George spent half of their time in Brooksville, Fla. for more than 20 years. They enjoyed many happy years together filled with great friends and relatives, at many fun gatherings and as much golfing and dancing as they could in Maine and Fla. After George passed in April 2014, Dorothy was no longer able to live alone. Her son, Dan, moved into the Lewiston home to keep her company, until she needed more day to day help. Dorothy then moved in with her oldest daughter, living in Leesburg, Fla., in April 2017.

She is survived by her son, Daniel J. Hopkins, of Lewiston, daughters, Jean M. and husband, Jim Ropella, of Leesburg, Fla., Kathryn H. and husband, Scott Dillenback, of Portland; brothers, William Kimball, of Dixfield, David Kimball, of The Villages, Fla., sister, Mary and husband, Jim Pulsifer, of Peru; four grandchildren: Justin Ropella, of Manassas Park, Va., Ryan Hopkins and fiancée, Heather Atkinson, of Tampa, Fla., Ashlee and husband, Alex Croyle, of Lewiston, and Jordan Ropella, of Ocala, Fla.; three great-grandchildren: Abby, Sofia and Liam Croyle.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Hanington, Rumford.

Dorothy will be placed with George at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, at a private ceremony later in the spring or summer, with a Celebration of Life gathering also planned in Lewiston.

The family would like to thank the staff of Crane’s View Lodge’s Memory Care personnel and Cornerstone Hospice Teal and Lavender Teams for their wonderful care and compassion for Dot. A very special thank you goes out to her in-home companion caregivers, Nereida (Neri) Gonzalez and Marianne Wilson, who spent many hours with Dot over the last two years.
