AUBURN – Hope W. Weston passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at the Hospice House in Auburn at the age of 103. Hope was born in Manila Philippine Islands on July 6, 1915, to her parents, Eugene E. Wing and Nellie Wing formerly of Fairfield, Maine. Hope grew up in Manila and graduated from the American School in 1933.  In 1937, she graduated from the University of Maine in Orono. There she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, Sigma Mu Sigma and was an All Maine Woman. She was secretary of the class of 1937 and later, president until 2002, when the class disbanded and joined the Senior Alumni.

In 1937, she and Lowell Nathan Weston of Augusta, Maine, were married in Manila Philippines, Hope’s home. They returned to Augusta and made it their home until they built their dream home “Olympus” in 1958 in East Winthrop, Maine. Hope moved to Schooner Estates in Auburn in 2007.

Hope was a member of the Board of the Augusta Salvation Army for 32 years. She was a member of the Kennebec Valley Garden Club from 1935 until her death. She was proud to be the oldest living member of the Garden Federation of America. She was a member of the Augusta Early American Glass Club, Kennebec Historical Society, Pine Tree Arboretum and The Daughters of the Colonists.  Hope was a longtime member of the Augusta Country Club and the South Parish Congregational Church. In 1997, she published her autobiography “Hope’s Two Lives.”

Hope and her husband, Pete, enjoyed many years wintering in Polynesian Village, Englewood, Fla.

Hope is survived by her two sons, Robert Nathan Weston and his wife, Mickie, and James Lowell Weston and his wife, Judy; six grandchildren:  Forest Weston (Lynn), Nathan Weston (Na), Adam Marquis (Hannah), Andrew Weston (Tracey), Eric Weston (Linda), and Leanne McKinney (Ron); 14 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by her parents; and later her husband, Lowell, in 2000.

A celebration of life will be held at date to be announced in the spring of 2019.
