SOUTH PORTLAND – Mary Elizabeth Bolduc, 98, passed away on Dec. 29, 2018, in South Portland, Maine.

Betty, to all who knew her, was born to Dr. George B. and Claire Nugent O’Connell on Valentine’s Day, 1920, in Lewiston, Maine. She graduated from Lewiston High School, attended Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa., and graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Lewiston. She was a nurse, a mother to three children and in later years, kept busy as a real estate broker.

After retiring in 1988, Betty and Al moved to the Portland area to be near where they first met years before, on Cedar Avenue in Old Orchard Beach. Betty could always be counted on for two things: her deep love of family and friends, and her Thanksgiving concoction of a lime-green jello mold which always brought groans, fun and laughter to her table!

Betty was deeply connected to her medical family background and always seemed to mention the fact that she was a nurse – even in her last few years!

Betty is survived by two daughters, Connie Castles and Gail (Linwood) Cross, both of South Portland, and a son, Chuck Bolduc of Newport, R.I. She also leaves four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, as well as the rest of her clan, seven nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Betty’s husband of 49 years, Alfred L. Bolduc, died in 1999. Betty was also predeceased by her sister, Claire “Jim” Reuwer of Men-dham, N.J., and Rockville, Ill.; and her two brothers, Dr. George B. O’Connell Jr. of Auburn and Richard “Dick” O’Connell of Lewiston.

There will be a private memorial service in the spring. The family wishes to thank the staff of the South Portland Nursing Home who cared for Betty with professionalism, dignity and respect. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland.
