LEWISTON — Maine’s premier klezmer music duo, Sruli Dresdner and Lisa Mayer, will perform at this week’s Oasis of Music, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Trinity Church, 247 Bates St.
Mayer, international Jewish musician, writer and personality, will perform original Biblical ballads. She will be accompanied by her husband, Rabbi Sruli Dresdner. The songs — of King David, Adam and Eve, the Prophet Jonah and others — bring a new perspective to the Old Testament stories. And, folks get to sing along.
Dresdner and Mayer sing and play violin, clarinet, recorder, accordion and percussion, and bring the dance, song and worship music of their Jewish ancestry alive with great ability and passion. Based in Auburn, where Dresdner serves as rabbi at Temple Shalom, they pursue a career that has taken them across the country, Canada, Europe and the Middle East.
