AUBURN — A former Freeport teacher is expected to enter pleas later this month to charges he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student.

Derek Michael Boyce

Derek Michael Boyce, 37, was charged last year with 26 counts related to his alleged sexual assault of a student at Pine Tree Academy, a Seventh-day Adventist school in Freeport.

Boyce admitted to police he had sexual contact with the student, according to an affidavit filed in Androscoggin County Superior Court. The court document said Boyce made his confession after he and the girl were caught by her mother at her Lisbon home in September.

Boyce was charged with 12 counts of gross sexual assault and eight counts of sexual abuse of a minor, each punishable by up to five years in prison.

Boyce, the girl’s math teacher at the Christian school, was also charged with six counts of unlawful sexual contact, each punishable by up to 364 days in jail.

He remains at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where he is held on $50,000 bail.

Boyce was scheduled to enter pleas Monday in Androscoggin County Superior Court, but the case was continued to Jan. 30.
