LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn CA$H Coalition will accept requests for free tax preparation appointments starting Tuesday, Jan. 22. This service is open to Lewiston-Auburn residents and the surrounding area.

Coupled with a free appointment, each resident will receive a free 15-minute financial checkup, providing them with an opportunity to hear about savings opportunities and local resources on topics such as home ownership and budgeting. “Jump Credit” will also be offered this year, providing a printed overview of one’s credit report and suggestions for improvement.

To schedule an appointment call 207-513-3160. Messages left before Jan. 22 will not be responded to. Annual income criteria for this service is $55,000 or less.

From Feb. 2 to April 13, there will be two options available for free tax prep by IRS -certified volunteers. Face-to-face tax preparation will be available on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Scan & Go will be available on Thursdays from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Scan & Go — a time-saving option — enables individuals to have their tax documents scanned for preparation and then return a week later for approval and e-filing. Both will occur at the Lewiston Memorial Armory.

Lewiston-Auburn CA$H is a multi-partner coalition established by the city of Lewiston in 2003. It strives to enhance individual/family self-sufficiency, as well as promote the Earned Income Tax Credit, a federal credit for workers.
