NORWAY – Thirza A. Herrick, 72, of Bethel passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Stephens Memorial Hospital. She was born in Rumford on Sept. 29, 1946 the daughter of Roger Lee and Jeanette Estelle Gibson Clough.

She married Chester Herrick on Jan. 20, 1962. She studied culinary arts at Eith’s Bakery in Lewiston. She held many jobs over the years including, The Bethel Spa Restaurant, Bethel Foodliner, Bethel Furniture Shop, Red Top, Gould Academy, The Bethel Inn and Newton Tibbetts, but her most important job was taking care of her family and owning the Hometown Bakery. She loved cooking, decorating cakes, wedding cakes, fly fishing, camping and dancing. She enjoyed her gardens and canning.

She won several ribbons at Fryeburg Fair over the years. She was a member of the Mollyocket Mixers. She was a very giving person, always had a smile on her face.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Chester Herrick of Bethel; her dog and constant companion, Rocky; daughter, Debora Swan and husband Jon, son, Chester, Jr. and wife Maureen; daughter, Lorraine Sumner and husband Scott; five grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; her sister, Mabel Buiniskus, and six half brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by her brother Harold Clough.

A celebration of life will be held on Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Alliance Church with interment in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in West Bethel. Family and friends may attend visitation on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 4-6 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home, Greenleaf Chapel, 37 Vernon St., Bethel.
