I thank the Maine Department of Transportation for adding the word “Officer” to the Nathan Desjardins Memorial Bridge signs and also thank the local residents who brought the word’s omission to our attention.
The bridge-naming bill was titled “Resolve, To Name a Bridge over the Saco River in the Town of Fryeburg the Nathan Desjardins Memorial Bridge” (LD 1916) and it received unanimous support from my legislative colleagues, was signed by Gov. Paul LePage and became law in July 2018.
When the signs were erected this past October, local Fryeburg area residents pointed out the omission of the word “Officer” from the signs. Their feedback and the willingness of the Maine DOT to initiate a change without new legislation, allowed us to quickly correct the omission.
That is a great example of people coming together to honor Officer Nathan Desjardins and his service on the behalf of the public.
Rep. Nathan Wadsworth, Hiram
