POLAND — A teenager who came home from school Tuesday afternoon to find her home on Hardscrabble Road full of smoke left and called 911.
“That was the perfect and best thing she could have done,” Fire Chief Thom Printup said.
Firefighters discovered part of a wood stove had broken, blocking the flue and filling the house with smoke, he said.
There were no injuries and no damage other than to the stove, he said.
Printup said the family was able to return to their home and switched to oil heat.
