LEWISTON — A Livermore man charged with manslaughter and aggravated criminal drunken driving stemming from a fatal crash in Turner last year was back in court Wednesday after Jay police said he violated his bail conditions.
Christian J. Parlin, 24, who was freed in November on his own recognizance, appeared Wednesday in 8th District Court, where a judge ordered him held without bail pending a Feb. 25 bail revocation hearing.
According to court documents, a Jay police officer was on patrol at 2:45 a.m. on Jan. 31 when he discovered a pickup truck down an embankment.
Parlin was a passenger in the truck.
Police checked his criminal record and found he had active bail conditions for charges of manslaughter and OUI. One of the conditions prohibited Parlin from possessing or consuming alcohol.
Officer Dylan Rider of the Jay Police Department “smelled the odor of intoxicants” on Parlin’s breath, and Parlin admitted he had two alcoholic drinks earlier in the night, according to court documents.
Records show Parlin’s blood alcohol level measured 0.08 percent, the legal limit.
Parlin was charged in Farmington District Court with misdemeanor violation of condition of release.
He later turned himself in to authorities on a warrant from Androscoggin County seeking bail revocation. On Wednesday, Parlin denied violating conditions of his release.
The felony charges stem from a May 24 crash on Route 4 in Turner that killed William Rodgers, 54, of Jay.
In that case, Parlin’s blood alcohol level measured at 0.166 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
He was indicted Tuesday by an Androscoggin County grand jury on the two felony charges.
Parlin pleaded not guilty to those charges Wednesday in 8th District Court.
