HARRISON — Lake Region High School senior Liam Opie will speak on the history of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Caswell Conservancy Center, 42 Main St.
The U.S. Army reservist is a member of Joshua Chamberlain Camp 69 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
The Sons is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Its predecessor was the Grand Army of the Republic, which was organized in 1881 and chartered by Congress in 1954.
Opie’s presentation will include information about the monument and new gravestones he and the organization are hoping to place in the Ridge Cemetery on Middle Ridge Road in Bridgton.
