BANGOR – Frances (Berry) Gierhan, 88, wife of the late Marvin F. Gierhan, died Feb. 10, 2019, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 19, 1930, the daughter of Willis and Mary (Jordan) Berry.

Fran was a lifelong member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. She attended Bangor schools graduating from Bangor High School and Beal Business College. Throughout her early years she was dedicated to family activities, volunteering at the church, schools, Little League, Cub and Brownie Scouts.

During their retirement she cherished her visits traveling with Marvin to Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, camping their way all over the country. She got the most enjoyment spending time with her many family members and friends along the way, always happy to return home for summers in Maine. All that knew her will miss her encouraging calls, cards, letters and loving notes for any occasion or holiday.

Frances is survived by two children, Bill Gierhan of Auburn and one daughter, Mary Jean (Gierhan) Zlotnick, husband Terry and Terry’s sister, Sherrie all of Wilton; two grandsons, Derek Gierhan and companion Kelsey Munroe of Portland, and Ian and wife Alicia Gierhan; two great-grandsons, Leo and Oliver of South Portland; one granddaughter, Carrie (Gierhan) Tooley; one great-granddaughter, Emilie (Gierhan) Madden; and the many friends, very special relatives Claudia, Michael Plummer and families; Eldon and Dorean Gierhan, Lynette Gierhan and their families. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 51 years Marvin F. Gierhan in 2004; and by her son, James E. Gierhan in 2016.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sylvia Ross Home for their compassionate care and dedication.
