DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Center for Wisdom’s Women is seeking volunteer applicants for Companions. The companion role requires women to have a professional background in social work, teaching, nursing, chaplaincy or other related fields. These companions work with local women with a commitment of a half-day per week. Those interested should contact Executive Director Klara Tammany at 513-3922.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few weeks ago there was a Sun Spots about an art show in Hallowell asking for submissions. I saved the information for a friend and now find I need the information again. Can you please print it again? —Dee, Farmington
ANSWER: Of course! This was originally printed in the Jan. 15 Sun Spots. It sounds like a wonderful event. Hallowell is definitely a happening place when it comes to art! There are also wonderful restaurants there to celebrate after the awards ceremony.
The Harlow in Hallowell invites artists to submit artwork to Art2019, the 24th annual juried show and 2nd annual juried show to be held at its new location at 100 Water St. Art2019 will be on view May 10-June 15 and an opening reception will be held on Friday, May 10, from 5-7 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m.
Art2019 is open to all Maine artists and to any artist with a strong connection to Maine.
This year’s juror is Myron M. Beasley, Ph.D., a professor at Bates College, artist writer, and international curator. His writing explores the intersection of cultural politics, art and social change.

The deadline for electronic submissions is 11:59 p.m. on April 1. Original fine art in any media may be submitted, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, digital, printmaking, fiber, photography, mixed media, ceramics, installation and more. Each artist may submit up to three works of art, which must be the artist’s own original work created within the last three years.
Art that has been previously exhibited at the Harlow is not eligible. Giclees and other reproductions are not eligible.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you tell me when and where Eddie Montgomery was killed? He was the Montgomery in the duo with Troy Gentry country music. —No Name, Peru
ANSWER: Eddie is alive and still performing. It was his partner, Troy, who was killed in a helicopter crash on Sept. 8, 2017 at Flying W Airport and Resort near Medford, New Jersey.
