LISBON FALLS – George P. Janosco, 91, of High Street, Lisbon Falls, passed away on Tuesday Feb. 12, 2019, at his lifelong family home with family by his side.

George was born at the family home on March 31, 1927, the son of Slovak immigrants, George M. Janosco and Mary Bartko. He was educated in the schools of Lisbon Falls.

On Feb.15, 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Barnett, and USS California. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal. He was honorably discharged on July 25, 1946. He will be remembered by many for proudly expressing his privilege of serving in the Navy.

On July 12,1952 he was married at St. John the Baptiste Church, Brunswick, to the former Therese P. St Pierre. Following their marriage, they made their home on High Street, where they raised their family of four children.

Like many people of that generation he developed many skills, having worked at Drews Garage as a young man. These skills he used throughout his life fixing small engines. He worked in the textile manufacturing industry, as a cloth finisher, having work Farnsworth Woolen Mill, Lisbon Center and Lisbon Mills Inc., Lisbon Falls. Upon the closing of the mill he went to work for the Auburn Parks and Rec. Dept. where he retired after many years. This was a job that he enjoyed where he used his diverse interest in carpentry, mechanics, and gardening.

George will be remembered by many for his love of the outdoors and his vegetable gardens. He joined many Slovaks of that generation with the desire to hunt for sport and food, deer, rabbits, and ducks. He also loved to go summer and winter fishing on Sebago, Thompson, and Sabbathday Lakes, and Pleasant Pond to highlight a few.

He also enjoyed going camping with his wife. They were hosts for several years at Sebago State Park. They took many camping trips even going to Florida. As many of their generation they enjoyed all forms of dancing, even joining the local Square Dance Club and traveling among the area and regional Square Dance Clubs. They enjoyed traveling they went on numerous bus trips and trips to Hawaii and the south west.

He was communicant of Holy Trinity Church, Lisbon Falls. Prior to the formation of the parish he was devoted member of the Slovak parish of S.S. Cyril & Methodius Church. He was a Life member of the (Lower Club) Slovak Catholic Assn.

He is survived by his wife Therese of Lisbon Falls; three daughters Theresa D’Auteuil and husband Paul of New Gloucester, Monica Theberge and husband Leo of Brunswick, Linda Inman of Lisbon Falls, a son George J. Sr. and wife Vicki of Bowdoin; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Janosco, sister Mary Margitan, an infant sister; and a granddaughter Christianne D’Auteuil .

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday Feb. 17, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday Feb. 18, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 67 Frost Hill Ave. Lisbon Falls. Interment will take place at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery in Lisbon Falls.
