FARMINGTON – Richard A. Ferrari, 94, of Farmington, died late Tuesday evening at the Sandy River Center in Farmington. He was born in Farmington, Nov. 13, 1924, a son of Adelmo and Lucy (Pirani) Ferrari and attended Farmington schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Bugler during World War II. After the war, he worked with his family at the family clothing store, “The Red Store” and later remodeled it with his brothers, Norman and David, and named it Ferrari Brother’s Clothing Store, where he worked until his retirement in 1980. He worked part-time at Hannaford Brothers in Jay for 10 years, following his retirement. Mr. Ferrari was a long-time member of Roderick Crosby American Legion Post and the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 of Jay. He was a former director of North East Bank for 15 years, president of the Farmington Ski Club in 1965, commander of the Legion in 1954, and a Cub Scout leader for many years. He enjoyed bowling and fishing in his younger years.He is survived by his children, Karen Black and her husband, Roger of Danforth, Steven of Southwick, Mass., Scott and his wife, Lynne of Farmington, Andrea and her husband, Tom McLaughlin of Strong, and Diane and her husband, Todd Hodge of Cocoa, Fla.; brothers, Norman and David, both of Farmington; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Angela, Dr. Anthony, Andrew, Riley, Morgan, and Chase; great-grandchildren, Payton, Colby, Caleb, and Olivia.He was predeceased by his wife, Wilma Albert; a grandson, Luke. Public graveside memorial services with U.S. Army honors, with his son, Steven, as bugler, will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Farmington with Father Paul Dumais, officiating.Condolences and tributes may be shared with his family on his memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
