POLAND — The Planning Board unanimously approved ordinances governing medical and adult recreational use of marijuana Tuesday night.

The combined ordinances are covered under Marijuana Standards for the Town of Poland.

They were presented at a public hearing Tuesday night.

According to Town Manager Matthew Garside and Board of Selectmen Chairman Walter Gallagher, the ordinances will be presented to the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday. A vote will be taken March 5 on whether to bring them to voters at the April 6 town meeting.

The standards — from cultivation and manufacture, to testing and selling — were drawn up by a 13-member committee formed last August. They include rules on location of facilities and storefronts, security and ventilation, and odor mitigation.

Committee member Garry Robitaille, a former licensed marijuana caregiver, said the ordinances are “balanced, well thought.”

Town Executive Assistant Nikki Pratt said the ordinances conform with state laws and were vetted by the town attorney.

Planning Board Chairman James Porter said he thought the process was “a little bit broken” due to time constraints and the board may revisit the ordinances next year.

He said he appreciated the work done by the committee.
