NORWAY – A Norway woman was killed Saturday afternoon on Pennesseewassee Lake after being thrown from her snowmobile and being struck by a second snowmobile, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Lt. Dan Menard of the Maine Warden Service said that Gracie Herrick Onofrio, 52, was driving a snowmobile on a plowed road near Pennesseewassee Lake around 3:35 p.m. Saturday when she hit a snowbank and went airborne.

Onofrio was thrown from her snowmobile and a second snowmobile from the same party struck her.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Menard.

The accident is still under investigation as of Sunday.

The Norway police and fire departments and PACE Ambulance assisted the Maine Warden Service at the scene.
