Louise C. Forgues

AUBURN – Louise C. Forgues, 81, of Auburn, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019. Lou was born on May 12, 1937, in Lewiston, Maine, to Romeo and Jeannette (Pelletier) Forgues. She received her education at St. Peter’s Elementary School followed by St. Dominic High School. Dedicated to her school, she was a proud member of the class of “’55”. In 1959, she graduated from Regis College in Weston, Mass.Her teaching career started at he alma mater, St. Dominic High School, where she taught science and math for 12 years. She then taught science and Religion at St. Peter’s School and was principal there for a total of 12 years. She completed her teaching career at Holy Cross Junior High in Lewiston after 39 years in Maine Catholic Scools. After retirement she worked as a seasonal employee at the L.L. Bean Call Center in Lewiston for 16 years.As an educator, Lou had concerns for the public sector, serving two six-year terms with the Diocese of Portland School Board. She was also appointed by Mayor Alfred Plourde to the City of Lewiston School Board, serving the public for six years. Lou was a founding trustee of the Franco-American Heritage Center at the University of Maine in Lewiston. Lou loved researching genealogy for her family and friends and enjoyed working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles.Lou loved outdoor sports, such as golfing, fishing, kayaking and hunting. Lou was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, watching every game whether on TV or at Fenway Park.Throughout her life, Lou enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, whether it was skiing at Sugarloaf or welcoming them to her home on Taylor Pond.Lou is survived by her brother, Paul, a Marist Brother from Chicago Ill., and her beloved dog, Cookie. Also surviving her is her dear friend and confidant of over 30 years, Anne Pontbriand of Lewiston. She also leaves many cousins and friends, especially Roger and Suzanne Lajoie, Ronald and Joline Girouard and their family, Stephen Bouchard, Marilyn Beauparlant and Amanda Labonte.Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her younger brother, Robert.Paul and Anne would like to thank Elite Home Care and Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for their care and Support. Vistation will be held on Friday from 10-11 a.m., at The Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul, Upper Church, on Bartlett St., in Lewiston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at The Basilica in the Upper Church at 11 a.m. Committal will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston.
