FARMINGTON – Robert E. James Sr., 91, of Farmington, formerly of Wilton, died Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2019, at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center.
He was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Lewiston, the son of Perry and Helen (Berry) James. He grew up in Auburn, moving to Wilton after graduating from Edward Little High School in 1950 and serving two years during the Korean Conflict as a radio clerk. Following his honorable discharge, he married Betty Daggett from Eustis. He delivered breads and pastries for Cushman Bread Co. before being employed at G. H. Bass in Wilton, from which he retired in 1992.
He was a former Grange Master at Wilson Grange, Wilton and was a member of Wilton Masonic Lodge #156 of Wilton. He was also a former member of the Wilton United Methodist Church and was a former member of the church’s Barbershop Quartet.
He was always a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics.
He is survived by his children: Robert E. James Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Strong, and Brenda Lebel and her husband, Jim, of Florida; a grandson, Marc James, and great-grandson, Parker James, both of Phillips. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Betty; three brothers, Edward, Ralph and Harold; and two sisters, Anna and Louise.
Private family memorial graveside services will be held in the springtime at the New Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. Cremation and memorial graveside services are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center: Adams~McFarlane Chapel 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington.
