POLAND — The Ricker Memorial Library board of trustees wants to “gauge interest” from residents on whether to expand, renovate or keep the facility as is.
Bill Almy, speaking for the trustees, requested approval from selectmen Tuesday night to spend $2,880 for a Project Feasibility Study.
Almy said the money would come from the library’s Stone Trust Account but the trustees require the selectmen’s consent for the expenditure.
Almy said he hoped the study could be done by the annual town meeting on April 6 so voters could offer an opinion.
The trustees are scheduled to meet next week with hopes of hiring an architect to do the study.
Town Executive Assistant Nikki Pratt suggested the trustees would gain a wider audience if the issue was presented in ballot form at the town election Friday, April 5. She said voters could select one of the three choices.
Town Manager Matthew Garside said the ballot could include a brief paragraph from the trustees explaining the situation before any money is to be spent.
Almy agreed with the idea and said he will bring it up at the trustees meeting.
Regarding town elections, nomination papers for elected offices must be filed by Feb. 25.
According to the town clerk’s report, those who have taken out papers are: Arthur Berry and Bruce Uldall for the two, three-year terms for selectmen; Claire Walker and Claire Ledoux Dick for two seats on the library board of trustees; and Melanie Harvey for a second term on the Regional School Unit 16 board.
Selectmen Walter Gallagher and James Walker are not seeking re-election.
