100 years ago: 1919

Lewiston florist Ernest Saunders has just come home with four prizes won at the big exhibit at the Agricultural Hall in Boston this week, by the Garden and Florists Club of that city. He took first on snapdragons and second prize on violets, daffodils and carnations. The Lewiston violets were the largest and would have taken a first, but the time consumed in the transition from the greenhouses to Boston resulted in the loss of some of their volatile sweetness.

25 years ago: 1994

Mystery Cafe’s show “Lights! Camera! Murder!” is to be performed at No Tomatoes restaurant Feb. 26, March 12 and 26 and April 9 and 23. “The show is a fast-paced mystery that brings audience members into the Hollywood extravaganza of ‘The Gimmie Awards,’ a spoof on the Academy Awards ceremony,” says Mystery Cafe’s Dan Marois. Mystery Cafe provides an exciting murder mystery to solve while serving up a four-course meal. Audience members must watch for clues and help solve the mystery of the evening. Under the direction of Tom and Pat Littlefield, the cast for the Auburn production includes Mystery Cafe veterans Marois, Bob Hazelton, Wendy McIntire, Alice DeYoung and Mark Crawford. Lewiston resident Dell Caren Deschenes is making her debut with the murder mystery troupe.
