LEWISTON — Jazz pianist Carlberg, 2018-19 artist in residence in the Bates College music department, will lead two concerts in March.

The first performance will feature Carlberg’s quartet, Frank Carlberg & Dream Machine, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 8. The quartet features accordion, tenor sax, bass and drums.

The band’s music, he says, “resides in the area between dusk and dawn of our consciousness and draws from half-remembered recollections of things past. Images of fantasy and reality intermingle in memories of carnivals, side shows and fairgrounds.”

“Mary Lou Williams — Paving the Way!” is the second show and will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23. Carlberg will present this concert in celebration of Williams, a pioneering composer, bandleader and pianist.

Both concerts are free but tickets are required. To get tickets visit batesconcerts.eventbrite.com. Both will also take place at Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.
