LEWISTON — The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library will host “Name that L/Andmark,” a fundraising game, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the library’s Callahan Hall. All proceeds raised will go toward the Friends of the Library.

In each round of the game, players will be shown a video clip of a local historic, scenic or business site. Each clip starts with an extremely close view of the subject and then moves back to reveal more details. A point will be awarded to the first player who correctly identifies the site. Winners will be determined by number of correct answers minus number of errors.

Winning players will choose from a variety of prizes donated by local Lewiston and Auburn businesses. There will be individual awards and team awards. The event will include an intermission with light refreshments halfway through the game.

For this game, Ben Lounsbury, a local resident, elaborated on the “Mystery Photo” format by Russ Dillingham, chief photographer for the Sun Journal. He shot or directed the shooting of all the clips, including the dramatic drone shots piloted by his friend Frank Hodson. Lounsbury has hosted similar games more than a dozen times in Maine and Michigan. Examples of his other video works, such as “Why Don’t We Do It In Our Sleeves” or “Escape of the Dahlias Down the Androscoggin,” can be found on YouTube. Lounsbury says, “I wanted to do this to thank the library for its hospitality in letting me and my client use library meeting rooms for LVA (Literacy Volunteers Androscoggin) lessons.”

Players can play individually, sign up as groups of 2 to 7 people, or sign up as complete teams of 8 participants. The registration fee is $20 per player. Registration forms are available at lplonline.org or at the library and should be turned in to the Lending Services Desk along with each participant’s registration fee. Only cash or checks will be accepted.
