POLAND — The Planning Board on Tuesday night approved the site plan for the Poland Corner water main extension project, submitted by the Mechanic Falls Water Department.
“The water main will be extended to provide public water to additional neighborhoods in Poland,” including a trailer park on Poland Corner Road, according to the proposal presented by Robert L. Prue of Pine Tree Engineering in Bath.
The project calls for a 30,000-gallon water-storage tank to be installed on Poland Corner Road “to increase the volume of water available at this end of town to improve fire protection services and the water supply for any high-use situations.”
An easement was granted to the Mechanic Falls Water Department so the storage tank can be installed.
According to Prue, work on the $100,000 extension is expected to begin this summer.
Officials said the cost of the project will be covered by the Maine Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, which receives money from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
