Fire Chief  Richard Mailhot is about to take one last ride for the road. He’ll climb behind the wheel of a ladder truck on Monday for a ride home after his last day on the job. The chief, who is retiring at a tender age of 45, will be feted at an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Central Fire Station. Firefighters invite the public to stop by to wish Mailhot good luck. Then comes the big event. The chief will climb into the station’s ladder truck, driving the rig to his Jepson Avenue home as a procession of firefighters will escort him, according to Deputy Chief Michel Lajoie.
