I don’t understand Gov. Janet Mills’ endorsement of the power line from Canada. She holds a cube of carbon, stating that the northern line will help Massachusetts’s air pollution, but disregards how the deforestation of Maine will increase Maine’s air pollution. Deforestation has always been cited as one cause of air pollution.
Mills also seems to disregard the hydro-power resources available in Maine. Hydro-power built the major industries in Maine. With all the talk of ocean warming, increases in viruses and disease growth and the northern migration of invasive and some diseased species, it would seem that investing in a non-air polluting power source and a potentially blocker of unwanted species invading the waterways and lakes makes more sense.
Not all sources of money are in Maine’s best interest.
