WATERFORD — A woman is facing charges after a police standoff that lasted eight hours.

Sherry Lyn Drew

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office says deputies along with troopers from Maine State Police were called to a home on Route 35 at about 4:26 p.m. Wednesday.

The call stemmed from a domestic violence report that involved a gun. The Waterford Fire Department was called in to help with closing down a part of the road, and the Maine State Police Tactical Team was also called in.

Fire officials said the victim was originally inside the home, but managed to get outside.

After an eight-hour standoff, the sheriff’s office says Sherry Lyn Drew, 57, was taken into custody by members of the Maine State Police Tactical Team.

Drew was turned over to sheriff’s deputies and taken to Stephen’s Memorial Hospital in Norway for evaluation.
