Hirundo Wildlife Refuge, 1107 West Old Town Road, Old Town, will offer a Senior Tour of the Trail of the Senses from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Specially trained docents will lead the tours to provide a friendly welcome and interesting information and to oversee the comfort and safety of tour participants.This tour takes you along the Trail of the Senses’ Pond Loop.  The Pond Loop branches off from an internal access road leading from the internal parking area. It crosses a small dam over a stream, and follows the circumference of the pond,passing by specialized wooded habitats. At the end of the pond,the trail leads to an observation deck that allows for sitting to observe the lovely views over the pond.

This trail requires about an hour at a slow pace to enjoy the setting and the interpretive displays.·Hirundo’s facilities include two outhouses near both loops of theTrail of the Senses, one of which is wheelchair accessible.A cabin by the pond for sitting indoors at a table is available and has a patio for outdoor seating.

The Trail of the Senses are two trails specifically designed for ease of access with a level hiking surface that allows for wheelchairs.  A grant from the Maine Community Foundation is generously supporting Hirundo’s 2019 Senior Tour program.
