Clay Beach of Collette Monuments in Lewiston guides a granite bench into place at Veterans Memorial Park in Lewiston on Thursday. The bench is in honor of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association and features a picture of the USS Slater DE-766, a decommissioned destroyer escort that is now a museum on the Hudson River in Albany, New York. The bench is the 18th placed in the park in honor of individuals or organizations. It will be dedicated at a ceremony at 11 a.m. Oct. 8. Watching the installation are U.S. Navy veterans Norm Demers, past commander of the Northeast Chapter of the association; Norm Cote of the L/A Veterans Council; and Bill Hayden of the association.
