One person was hospitalized after fire swept through a two-story home Tuesday morning in Casco.

The injured person, who lived in the house at 15 Leach Hill Road, was taken to a hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, said Casco Fire Chief Brian Cole. Another person escaped without injuries.

When fire crews arrived around 10:38 p.m., most of the home was engulfed in flames. The fire caused a section of the wood-framed structure to collapse, Cole said.

Cole said about 40 firefighters from nine communities responded to bring the fire under control. Multiple ambulances were sent to the scene. There was no on-site water supply, so Engine 3 from Otisfield pumped more than 100,000 gallons from nearby Pleasant Lake.

“The building is still standing, but there is heavy fire, smoke and water damage throughout,” Cole said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s Office, said Fire Marshal Joe Thomas.
