LEWISTON – Gerard N.S. Lafrance, 94, of 550 College St., Lewiston, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice Services in Auburn.

Born in Lewiston on July 21, 1926, he was the son of Charles and Alexina Madore Lafrance. Educated in Lewiston schools, he also attended the Lowell Technical Institute in Lowell, Mass. Gerard served in the Merchant Marine during World War II, returning to Lewiston after the war.

On April 15, 1950, he married the love of his life, Jacqueline M. Mercier. He was employed for several years as a lab colorist and consultant at Bates Fabrics. Gerard enjoyed golfing at Prospect Hill and Summit golf courses, but his greatest enjoyment came from working with his hands as a self-taught carpenter and woodworker. He loved fixing things for friends and family, and examples of his handiwork can be found all over Lewiston and Auburn.

Besides his loving wife, Jackie of Lewiston, he is survived by a daughter, Diane Douglas and significant other Dr. Roger Bergeron of Auburn and Florida, a grandson, Jeff Douglas and wife Heather, two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Samantha Douglas, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Bert, Armand, and Roland, and three sisters, Rita, Lorette, and Muriel.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to his niece, Candace Dubois and husband David, and also to the staff of Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice for all the loving care they gave Gerard during his final illness. Services will be held later in the year.
