Designing floral arrangements is nothing new to Ann Welch. She’s been doing it for a while and “loves working with flowers,” Welch said, while dusting the leaf of a new hanging plant. She came up with the idea of opening Country Rose Florist, located opposite the Mexico Fire Department, as a way to earn an income while still being able to care for her two sons. “I bought the building and we live upstairs, so I’ll be basically working at home,” Welch said. Her boys, 11 and 13, are excited about the prospects she faces, Welch said, and will probably be called on to help out occasionally. Country Rose Florist will offer free delivery to hospitals and funeral homes and will be available for last-minute orders. Welch said she will use call-forwarding for customers who need to reach her in the evening.
