Charlie Grace

RUMFORD – Charlie Grace, 64, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 with loving family by his side. He was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer a few short months ago; a difficult diagnosis he met with his ever-present calm demeanor.

Born in Rumford on Nov. 28, 1956, he was a son of Freeman and June (Sawyer) Grace, Sr. He attended Mexico Schools and was employed as an Inspector for Pioneer Plastics in Auburn

By all accounts, Charlie was a good man, he was a warmhearted, gentle soul who cherished family and friends above all else. He was a dedicated family man and derived so much joy from spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He valued tradition, visiting his sister, Ellen every Saturday and always attended family gatherings. He loved getting together with his good friends, Jenny, Bob, Donna and Ed for spirited card game nights and enjoyed playing bingo with the ladies. Charlie worked hard and he loved with his whole heart. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Sonya Samalis of Bolton, Vt. and her husband Michael, daughter, Lisa Lough of Fayette, Maine and her husband Tom; grandchildren, Mackenzie Freise and her fiancé Andrew Coulombe of Winthrop, Rally Freise of Fayette, Shawn Lough, and James Lough of Readfield; a sister Ellen McLean of Rumford, brothers Fred of Hartford and Frank of Rumford; and the mother of his children, Marjorie Swett of Mexico, Maine. He was predeceased by a brother freeman “Nick” Jr.
