LEWISTON — The Androscoggin-Sagadahoc County Farm Service Agency (FSA) will hold a special election for its county committee that will open Tuesday, March 2.

Nomination forms must be postmarked or received in the Androscoggin-Sagadahoc County FSA office by close of business on Tuesday, April 13. The special election is for local administrative area No. 2, which includes Auburn, Durham, Poland, Mechanic Falls and Minot.

Nominations for (FSA-669A) ballots are being accepted in the FSA county office through April 13. Agricultural producers may nominate themselves or someone else provided they sign the applicable nomination form indicating a willingness to serve. To be eligible to serve, a person must participate or cooperate in an agency-administered program, be eligible to vote in a county committee election, and reside in the local administrative area where they are nominated.

Elected county committee members serve a three-year term, or in certain cases, will finish the term of the member they are replacing. Members are responsible for making decisions on FSA disaster, conservation, commodity and price support programs, as well as other important federal farm program issues. County committees consist of three to 11 members.

FSA will mail election ballots to eligible voters beginning Wednesday, April 28. Ballots are due back in the Androscoggin-Sagadahoc County FSA office no later than Wednesday, May 26. Ballots will be counted in the Androscoggin-Sagadahoc County FSA office on Wednesday, June 2, and all newly elected county committee members and alternates will take office Tuesday, July 6.
