Sandor Margolin

RED HOOK, N.Y./HYDE PARK, N.Y. – Sandor “Sandy” J. Margolin, 79, of Red Hook and Hyde Park, passed away at the Meadows at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck, N.Y. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021. He was born on July 4, 1941 in Lewiston, Maine, the son of Maurice A. and Ann R. Margolin of Auburn. Sandy married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Goldberg, on March 31, 1963 in Augusta. She predeceased him in May 2014.

Sandy graduated from Edward Little High School and attended the University of New Hampshire. He was an Army veteran. Following Sandy and Gayle’s move to upstate New York, he became a long-time member of Vassar Temple. He was involved with the Hyde Park Jaycees, Dutchess County Special Olympics, Hyde Park Music Parents Association, FDR High School Drama Club and many other Drama Clubs throughout the Hudson Valley. Over the years, Sandy worked for IBM, Motorola and NYCOMCO, but the bulk of his work life was spent as a Sound Engineer at his company SMAVSCO. He provided sound and lighting services for the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, multiple local dance companies, playhouses and stages throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond, including off-Broadway shows. Being involved in music and theater were what made him happiest. He and Gayle certainly shared and passed that love for music and the arts onto their family.

Sandy is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Lisa-Sue and Kurt Quackenbush of Rhinebeck, N.Y., a son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Kristin Margolin of Rutland, Vt., a daughter and son-in-law Lora Beth and Andy Bradford of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and grandchildren Shelby, Bradley, Kiley, Cassandra, Jarid (Gabi), Alexandra, Alanna and Blake.

The family would like to thank the very loving and dedicated staff at the Meadows at Brookmeade for their loving and compassionate care of Sandy.
