WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church of West Paris has announced the March schedule of worship services held at 9 a.m. Sundays. All are welcome. Church members are following safety practices of wearing masks and social distancing. They are not singing during the hymns, but Tom Coolidge is providing music.

March 7: “Changing the Words,” led by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. At the music-filled service Stephenson will consider the stories behind the hymns and the people who wrote them.

March 14: “The Comfort of a Sweater,” led by guest speaker Cynthia Reedy. How trials, challenges and many physical hardships can be alleviated by simple things, such as a sweater, a warm cup of cocoa or gingerbread.

March 21: “Activist Theology,” led by Stephenson. Activist theology bridges the gap between academia and activism, bringing the wisdom of the streets to the work of scholarship. Consider how theology and ethics can break new ground in the work of justice, hope and liberation for all.

March 28: “The Historical Jesus,” a viewpoint from the developing Universalism, led by the Rev. Fred Jordan. As this is Palm Sunday in the Christian Faith, it seems an appropriate time to discuss the role of the historical Jesus of Nazareth in the development of Universalism. This will be both from a historical perspective and from Jordan’s own practice of the faith.
